e4od questions

Well I'm way driving today on the highway. 65mph, and my torque converter keept unlocking and locking for about a half a mile ( 30 seconds or so ) in 4th gear. Where should i start. It also likes to do this on this one hill at 35mph.

I've been meaning to check my tps for awhile now.

Make sure your brake lights are not coming on from hitting bumps or your foot touching it,When you touch the brakes the brake lights it gives voltage to kick off the OD.

start by examining the solenoid pack plug.checking for any stripped out wiring, and or dirty connection withing the plug harness,or the clip.clean it real well followed by a healthy dose of dialectic grease, and go a ride to see if this cured it.

My foot was on the gas pedal and the other was sitting off to the side. I don't have cruise control.

I will be checking that. Today it has been find. So my guess is a crappy connection somewhere. But, who knows what my tps is like. It does kinda shift like a turd ( shifts fine but its timing can be horrible at times ).

Plus its been on my list for awhile.

When the TPS is out of range or just tired it will cause your shifting issues.

Good to know. Trans doesn't seem tired. Its got about 150,000 on it. Fluid looks great, doesn't smell burnt.

x2
The torque concverter is suppose to unlock when you hit the breaks so that the truck isn't still pushing as your trying to stop or slow down. The little brake sensor switch on the pedal under the dash or a short in the brake wiring will cause problems with the torque converter not locking up.

May be a differant situation but...will the TC unlock/lock if the E brake light comes on? My 91 will randomly flash the E brake light and sometimes the trans feels like it slips

the tp sensor can have what is called a nosiy signal which will cause the torque converter to hunt
it may or may not set a code if it has a 43 it is noisy
led tail lights cause issues with tcc operation due to having diodes in the circuit
the processor does not look for voltage on the circuit when the brakes are appled
but uses it for a ground when the brake lights are off
