yeah, it does..... people are regressing! It's a FREAKING phone.

don't get me wrong, there are instances that a quick tidbit of information can be relayed easier via text than making a phone call. just freak out with people that send paragraphs at a time and have lengthy conversations via text.....

I comunicate with my wife about 80% of the time via text. It allows us to stay connected, but she doesnt have to stop what she is doing, and I dont have to stop what I am doing.

Of course I am gone for 3 weeks at a time, not many people have to deal with those issues.

Joe, that is cool given a busy lifestyle and your situation. However, in today's world, people no longer seem to know how to give their undivided attention.

I am hitler in my house. The family sits down to dinner and we talk. No tv, no phones, nada. Always give buddies chit when we meet for lunch, or are at the bar, and they try to have their nose stuck in their phone- rather sit by myself if that's the case. Freaks me out too, at school events with the kids, probably 80% of the parents are busy using their phones. None of them are stock brokers or corporate conglomerates, lol.

The scene:

It's our anniversary, which coincides with a good friend's anniversary (dive buddy). We invite them on a sailing excursion on Lake Chelan - with water so clean it's second only to Crater Lake (of all the sizable waters I've visited). The sky is a deep blue, the temperature is 90 degrees, and the breeze is just strong enough to sail without listing (newbies hate listing). The scenery is alpine. Here's a shot from that day.

How does my friend's wife utilize this opportunity? Texting about sailing to everybody on her contact list. I was thinking Bill Murray "I'm sailing! I'm a sailor!" She hardly even looked up from the phone, except to whine that the sun was washing out her screen. I was ready to lash her to the rudder, instead of the mast.

Thanks to that experience, we have a sailing policy: All electronics go in a waterproof/floating "safety container" that just so happens to be soundproof. We regale visitors with horror stories of electronics lost overboard and that pretty much makes them amiable to being disconnected for a few hours. If that doesn't work, I take 'em uplake where there isn't even a reliable GPS signal (big honkin' fjord).

That's not Hitler, that's just the way it's supposed to be, if at all possible.

Too bad this is considered "old school" eh?

My wife has family that have a camp/summer house on Priest Lake. I'm guessing that's up in your area Tugly.

To be clear as well...

There is no text talk when we text. Complete sentences, spelling, punctuation and such...

No str8 or crap like that.

That's one of my spots to visit. Very spectacular almost anywhere you go in this area.

That's about it. I've been on forums long before Facebook was an outlet to BS with those who have the same hobbies/interests. I found it easier to skip right to everything following my most recent visit. There are features on the forum that can help, but my method is pretty reliable - the forum sometimes shows my most recent post as a couple of months back. I could have chosen any color, but this one was easiest on my old eyes... of the colors available.
