Identify engine? 351c, w, or m?
Hey Lectric and welcome to FTE!
I can tell you for sure that it's not a Cleveland. Not stock anyway. Ford quit making Clevelands in 1974.
It could possibly be a 351M. Although I believe Ford quit putting them in trucks in '82. Not sure about that though.
I have an '83, and according to my owners manual the only engines available were the 300 six, the 302(what mine had), and the 351W (which is what I put in it)
The 351w will give you many years of trouble free service as Ford continued using them until---?
To be sure though, and to answer your question, look at the fuel pump. Two bolts verical from each other -351M, two bolts horizontal from each other -351w
And just to make sure it's not a 302, look at where the timing cover, block, and head come together. If there is an inch of space between the head and the cover, it's a 351. If the head sits right "on top of" the timing cover, it's a 302.
Franklin2 I believe has a neat diagram illustrating this.
vertical from each other? You mean just plain vertical or horizontal, like either screwed into the block up and down in relation to the ground or sideways?
it's a windsor and the guy I bought it from says it was rebuilt about 70k ago. It sure acts like it, it's got very strong oil pressure, is pretty snappy and all the fluids look good, no knocks/lifter/rocker noise.
Thanks for all your help in indentifying characteristics. I really like this forum, I should be around for a while.
