hey guys, I thought i remembered there being a write up about how to r&r glow plugs, but i havent been able to find it... anyone know where i can find one? I'm pullin my gp's and want to make sure i dont miss any important steps...
Right now i've just got the valve cover off, and i'm stopped there so i don't mess anything up lol
Not much you need to worry about with the gp's Daniel. Carefully loosen the old ones. If they are motorcrafts(hopefully they are), they should come out pretty easy. I used a short piece of rubber hose to start the new ones back in, just like I do a sparkplug.
Alrighty, just finished up. You were right, Darin, nothin to em. They all pulled right out, no problems. I'm pretty sure they were the originals too. They were nasty! She runs much better now! Still a little white smoke, but nowhere near as bad... You thing that might be a PCM issue?
Not to hijack, but I'm about to do this on my truck, and I was curious if anyone used an anti seize or anything like that on the glow plugs before they install them.

Always a good practice to ohm them out at the harnesses before and after you reinstall the VC's. Sometimes the Glowplug connectors need to be pinched to get a good grip and take notice where the glow plug lead will rest. ensure its not tucked under the gasket and out of the way of the rocker arms, vibration, rubbing and all.
the brake hose is good but I;ve had to use clear 1/4" hose with a slight maybe 3/16 slit cut longitudnially at the tip to slip over the probe real tight for getting in and getting out. Sometimes the excess oil makes the hose slip and not even brakecleaner sprayed on the hose can get it to grip just right sometimes. BTW the Glow plug is a metric 1-10 extrafine thread if you run into a crossthread problem on # 7 or 8. had a slight problem once but an old plug worked out great in rethreading it.
