I've been chasing gremlins in my cooling system for a bit now and the latest is that my radiator leaks. It happens. The next big thing on the horizon is when my radiator gets fixed, I'm afraid the stem on the engine the feeds coolant to the heater is going to give up the ghost. It's already cracked (and missing a chunk of metal) but there was just enough metal below the missing part to clamp a hose on to. Is this part replaceable?? Without taking apart the engine? I found a pic to help illustrate. The pic is from Classic Trucks Magazine and is NOT mine or my work. It's just for illustrative purposes. I didn't want to take apart the hoses in this area of my engine just to take a pic.
I just removed mine and tapped it to 1/2 NPT (fits perfect no drilling) then picked up a 1/2 NPT x 5\8 hose barb fitting and screwed it into the block. Worked good.

X2. I've done this on two 351m's now. Mine actually had a piece of copper plumbing pipe pressed in and it didn't leak for 4 years, but I tapped threads and made a screw in fitting work when I built the engine, I felt it was more reliable in the long run.
I had to use a small chisel on mine and knock in one side, then I used a pair of vice grips to pull out the old one. Mine came out in chunks because it was so corroded. Try to keep as much out of the block as possible. Good luck.
Don't worry too much if a few small pieces or a few chips from the tap fall in the motor though. Get as much as you can. Chisel and vise grips will get the old one out for sure.
