Well, here is what I would do if it is mine. I'd keep the 351M or make it into a 400 & put a 4BBL intake & carb then do dual exhaust (fortunately one the previous owners did that to Rustoleum already [Less money to drop into her ]) . But, overall its your truck do what you want. But, we will be happy to give opinions !
Well it has dual exhaust, but I am going to replace all the tubing and mufflers for the sake of my addiction to wanting everything to be perfect. I already bought Flowtech long tubes, just havent installed yet. I will probably either turn the 351 into a 400 (crank and pistons), put a 4bbl carb and intake, new camshaft or buy this 460 and build it perfectly for the next couple of years and swap it at a later date. If I do that, Ill just put the headers on it to give me a decent sounding truck. Who the hell knows. I am so figgin torn. idk wtf to do haha
Off topic but the performance build up link above said you must change the harmonic balancer if upgrading to 400 crank(use 400 balancer). I bought a 400 long block but I used the 351 balancer. Should I switch to 400 balancer ? First I've ever heard of this but I'm by No means an engine builder. Any comments? sorry 4 the high jack of thread
A Comp Cams 268, Edelbrock Performer and a Carter 625 with headers can really wake up a 351M....AND you'll have dudes asking you if its a 390!! LOL. That's my experience with it. Oh....and you should convert your rocker arm bolts to screw in studs and Crane has a kit for that. Easy to do, all the instructions are provided.
