Hey guys,
I was out in a little bit of mud last night and went to enter 4 wheel drive and nothing happened. My hubs were locked in but the front tires weren't under power. I tried both 4 hi and 4 low.
It worked about a month ago and then was parked in the shop. Nothing looks broke and all looks good from the outside.
I haven't had time to look at it but I'd appreciate it if you could give me things to look for. I'm pretty sure the hubs are engaging but I could use some help here.
Was the front drive shaft spinning? i.e. If you rear tires are slinging mud, the front shaft spinning and the front tires not spinning, then it is a hub or diff problem.
I have seen the slip shaft on the driveline worn so bad that the splines disengage under torque. if this were the case, it would be evident by by excessive slop at the slip yoke. just a thought. Just be cautious while diagnosing your prob, a stuck lockout can engage suddenly. Somebody could get hurt.
I never even thought to look to see if the front shaft was spinning.
I'll look at things closer tonight and see the verdict.
I had another suggestion to look at my linkage to the t-case. If it goes into neutral and back into 2wd, that shows that the linkage is working right? It doesn't seem to move to difficult. It actually moves pretty free.
Ok here is another suggestion, Jack up one rear, both if she's a tracloc , so you can spin the output shaft on the tcase , careful it will roll if in park. Then get into 4Hi, you should feel the front and rear output shafts engage together. if you achieve this t case and linkage intact. now engage the hubs, you should be able to follow the torque transfer down the front drivetrain (by spinning a rear wheel)and determine where your slippage is. Tranny in neutral and engine off with wheels chocked for safety.
