Morning Guys; This 6 cyl 226 Has not run for yrs. has compression in all cylinders, should i change all electrical and fluids before I even think of turning it over or just go for it?
If she's been sitting for years, the gas is probably gunk. You would be chancing pushing that into the carb, which may already be full of gunk.
I'd recommend cleaning the gas tank, fuel lines and carb before trying to start her. And the oil is probably nasty by now as well.
If you don't have any electrical shorts and have a good battery, there's no reason to change the wiring before you get her running. Mine had lots of bare wires ends when I got her, but she ran.
Since you said it has compression in all cylinders I'm assuming you had it spinning over. The next thing I'd do is change the oil, either clean and adjust the plugs or buy new ones. A tune up kit is fairly cheap . I'd then say you're good to go.
Before sticking too much money into an engine I just try to do the basics. Once I have engine tuned up I disconnect the electrical, usually the wiring is so bad I wouldn't trust it anyways. I also disconnect the fuel system from the Carb to make nothing gets into. I hot wire electrical system, making sure I can quickly pull the wires if something goes wrong. I then dump a small amount of gas in the carb and see what happens.

I watched that "Loud and Fast" show today. They had an old Model A sedan that they wanted to start. Everything was rusty on it, and you can imagine the tank was as well. Rather than use a clean can, they poured gas down the tank and promptly plugged the line. Not to swift for "car" guys.
