Hey everyone, so this is a last ditch effort to solve a starting problem on my 1988 F-150 351W and C6 trans. The problem: when the truck gets to operating temperature and is turned off, after waiting a few minutes it is hard to crank, acts like it has a weak battery, then when it cools off, it turns over without a problem and fires right up, and always fires up when cold.
Here is what checked/replaced: Clogged Cats (there are none), new Starter, set timing, replaced cap and rotorNew Battery, Replaced Pos & neg cables, replaced starter sel, replaced vac lines, heat shield over new starter.
I am out of ideas, I need help and any ideas would be much appreciated, thank you!

Check your coolant temperature sensor and make sure it's within the FORD specification as well as the associated wiring for short/open.

I think you are experiencing "vapor lock" at the fuel rail/injectors.
That would explain why your truck will start up after it cools down a bit.
Have you done any mods to the engine around those areas or removed any heat shielding ????
If you haven't done any mods, it might be worth a trip to a salvage yard to compair what you have (or DON'T have) in a parts truck engine bay.
Subford: The neg runs down to the frame rail on the passenger side, then connects to the ground running to the block, with new wires and connections. I checked the drop through the cables and it was next to none.
Truckin Bob: no mods that I have done or "appear" to be done by a previous owner, but going off of what you are saying I know there are no heat shields around the fuel rails, so that should be an easy thing to do next, thanx!
Puddy: where would you suggesting unplugging the EGR? Electrical and Vacuum? The starter engages and cranks, but cranks very slowly, maybe two or three turns in about ten seconds.
Overly rich fuel mixture during "warm" crank = cylinder wash. Check fuel delivery system for issues. Pressure reading kOEO, vac line on then off FPR KOER, Over pressure, static pressure leakage test etc.
Spark advanced to far out during "warm" crank, way to far out cause hard/choppy cranking. Check timing cold and warm and with/without spout jumper in place to verify it stays where it should be.
Combination of both perhaps? Someone jacked the timing way up plus leaking injector or more add to that faulty FPR?
Doesn't sound like a starting system/circuit issue based on what you've done so far, unless got a bum starter, draws to much juice under load. IE not enough ***** spin the motor over once heat soaked.
Thanx for the suggestions thus far, I checked two other truck one with a 302 the other with a 351w, both and mine have the same setup, so i didnt see anything missing or added when i did the comparison
I also am running a can of Sea Foam through a tank of gas to see if it maybe frees up a leaking injector, if there is one.
Also replaced wires and terminals around the starter selenoid, just for the hell of it, no effect
