Trouble starting when hot

Here is the problem

If I run till engine hot, park.. Wait about 10min try and start ..
The starter will have a hard time starting the engine, eventually melting starter wires after months. Starter etc.. Once starter is worn it won't even turn the engine over.

Replaced all wires, starter, etc..

Problem is there but new stuff able to push thru the hard start..

Starter has heat shield per factory.

If I wait 5-10 more there is no problem starting ever, just that magic 7-10 time. Truck starts with a tap of the key

Any ideas or what should I look at next?

Sounds like classic starter heat soak, but you're running a heat shield

Did you replace the battery cables too? if not, what condition are they in? they can often times look fine but be corroded on the inside.

hey i have the same symptoms on my 460, when i swapped carbs it didnt do it as bad, and i was thinkin the problem was it was getting flooded out, if i would hit it with starting fluid it would start, or just wait a long time and fire right off! also pumping the gas made the problem worse... someone told me the big-blocks would drip gas from somewhere and flood it when hot(doesn't sound like a possibility but made a good theory, never heard of it before)LOL. now that ive replaced all my carb mounting and spacer gaskets and rebuilt the carb i havent had too much trouble. my spacer gaskets were in really bad shape!

i do not have a heat shield either

Mine won't even turn over, like too much compression for the starter

A easy fix for yours is an aluminum spacer for the carb to intake.. Or try plastic.. But different issue.

Where's your initial timing set at? you may have too much advance which would exacerbate the situation when the engine is hot.
