Viair power source

Thinking at work last night about useing the 12 volt plug in under rear seat for power source for comp.
Any one know what amp draw for the 10007 comp is, what the plug in is rated for, and is it powerd on with key or live all the time.
thought of this at work last night, and night shifts pretty much kill me, I get home go to bed then get up and go at agian.
thx in advance for any info
Keith

12 volt plug prob not enough. You will need the spec, bout 30 or 40 amp required. Upfitter 1? You can leave switch on, power it up whenever truck is started.

It looks like it's max amp draw is 19 amps. I'd install a small air tank, and use one of the upfitter switches, with it wired inline to a pressure switch to trigger a relay, with the relay getting it's main fused power from the battery. Here's the specs for that compressor. They also provide a wiring and plumbing diagram for you.

It will melt a 30amp fuse when used very heavily. I mean if you run it for 1/2 hour nonstop.

I use upfitters 2 and have two 30amp fuses wired inline to make sure the wires don't get too hot.

this is the right way, altho you could just let it air up all the time and let the pressure switch handle the work of controlling the relay.. thats what I do on my custom truck.

the pressure switch controls ground to the relay. 30 gets power from the fused lead from the battery., 85 from some switched (key on) source. 87 goes to the compressor and 86 from the pressure switch whose other side is connected to ground.

the pressure switch is normally closed (passing ground thru to the relay, closing 30 & 87), until the pressure is reached, then opens.

Thx guys, just thought splicing wire from that plug would be quick n easy, with the grommet right behind the seat through the cab.
And wanting to save the upfitter switches for other things, The # 1 was used when they wired my Rigid 20". no big deal to resplice to another switch. Just a thought.
Have a good night
Keith
