Getting an odd stutter

I cannot force reproduction of it, its completely random and only around startup.

I'll start up and idle. And it idles fine, but when I go, gas or just idle in gear, it will run for a second, then act like the truck gets shut off and turn back on and run fine.

Truck runs great. It's just really weird. Like somebody is turning the key off for a split second.

Doesn't do it any other time except around startup.

I have not noticed oil temps.

I dont know why I wrote down 844 for a code. I think I meant 344, and i got a 236 too.

CMP sensor fault is 344, and 236 is some turbo code.

I guess I might have some CMP wiring issues? (thats CPS for others who dont know)

That's where I would start looking. What CPS are you running?

I got the black one and a spare grey in the glove box.

Dont wanna touch anything though and screw up my fuel mileage.
20+ is hard to beat.
Specially with a bad front end alignment and a bent front axle.

haha Well then just put up with the stutter!
If I got 20+ Id sit n smile assuming everything is running optimum.

On a side note. Since I flushed the coolant and put in that filter I have increased mileage significantly. Got 272 on my front tank...a mixed of highway & in town.
Just flipped to rear tank last night. Im looking to empty both and fill up n see the avg.

sorry

get it aligned and fix that axle.. I bet you can beat out all those cummins who claim "25-28 highway"

I laff when they say that and I see it smoke on a slight incline. the pigs.

I would check the wiring then. Either that or make sure the connector is tight at the PCM.

I'm getting over 300 miles a tank on mine.
When I went to RRE, i got over 25mpg.
Not sure WTF happened there. Bent axle then too!
Need to get a d60 or something. Front end pops and cracks and moves around now too, its crazy.

Lol I'm not even getting 300 miles out of both tanks. Eta I guess I am.

But I just installed that black cps and man it makes my truck quieter, and have more power, and I am still thinking more mpgs. The gauge hasn't moved much in the last couple days.

I've got a similar issue and it happened really bad yesterday. Near as I can tell all the wiring is fine.

Start the truck up, let it idle and then start wiggling the wiring harnesses around. If it is a connection issue you should be able to find it easily enough that way.

Check the IDM for water intrusion while you're at it. If it is damp in there and still working, you might be okay to dry it out and re-seal it.

And yeah, I'd be thrilled with 20MPG!

Very very very very hard to find.

YOu have to find somebody who has one and buy it off them.

Clay went around and bought out all the businesses IIRC, and he's out of stock on them. they are no longer MFGed either.

The black CPS isn't that hard to find, actually if the -C part number is the one to which you're referring. You can get them off eBay right now for less than $30 each with free shipping. Just search "7.3 Powerstroke CPS". You can also buy them in quantities of 3 or 5. They're a little more expensive than the grey ones are, but not bad. I'm not convinced there is that big a difference between the grey one and the black one either, but the black one is supposed to be marginally better. Either one is better than a junk sensor from a parts store.

It is better.

The difference between them is the focus of the hall effect sensor.

Went from 13mpg to 15+ with the sensor change from grey to black.
