Can't identify the sound! Driving me nuts!

Hey,

I've been hearing a new sound in my 91 F250 460 4x4 lately. It's not the exhaust, it's a ticking/clicking in the background.

Trucks been running rough, shuddering when shifting lately as well.

Wizened forum ears - If you can hear it, tell me what you think. I'm genuinely stumped!

Do the EFI trucks have the crossover pipe at the back of the heads?
I know on carbed 460's that's exactly what they sound like when the pipe or check valve starts to rot out.

The EFI 460s have injection pipes into the manifolds, not the heads. They should still just as easily rot out though.

It does kind of sound like lifter tick as well though. Try an oil change and see if it clears up.

You guys are awesome, I really appreciate the help. I'll try changing the oil and check for cracks in the head. Fingers crossed on that front tho!

The heads should be fine but need to check the cross over tube on th exhaust manifold, I would try litter thicker oil.
