This may sound like a dumb question, but what is the safest/easiest way to get the emblems off so they can be acetone styled?

I'm hoping they are pop on, pop off and they aren't glued on.

Thanks,
Bryan

From what I've read heating them up with a hair drier or heat gun for a while then using fishing line in a sawing manner behind the emblem will get them off. They are attached with double faced tape.

I did mine [i]inplace/[i] using "Prestone Brake Cleaner".

Just masked off the area real good around the emblem and spray away. I did all 5 emblems in less than 1/2 hour.

Used a good cleaner and then appiled some wax to the area afterward.

I too just masked off the area and did them while they were on the truck. It is scary but they turned out great and it didn't hurt a thing.

For those that have acetoned their emblems... how did you keep, or where did you get the XLT stickers to put back on the emblem.

I'd like to do mine, but don't want to lose the XLT.

Thanks

My red XLT didn't come off when I used the brake cleaner.

Wow you did it on the truck? I was scared to do that for fear of melting my paint off.

I first read about the method, and when the dude said "you just spray a healthy coating and it runs off" i imagined a deluge of paint filled acid coating my feet and driveway.

Glad to hear it's pretty easy though.

If you rub lightly and not constantly in the same spot you shouldn't have an problems with the XLT stickers. I didn't mess up mine. If you do take them off drop me an email and I will give you the link of where to buy new ones (can't or shouldn't post it on here as it is one of those "other" sites).

Just mask off the area really good and go lightly at first until you get the hang of it. It might not hurt to keep a bottle of water close by to wipe off excess acetone though.

I used cotton ***** with the acetone to get the majority of the black off. Used qtips to get in the tight spots. took about 5 minutes per badge (once I got the 3 layers of tape on!!!)

The emblems are a chrome F-250 on a black painted background. The acetone removes the black paint so the whole thing except the RED is a nice shiny chrome.

Look at your logo on your truck, then look at hthighway's pic posted in this thread. You should be able to tell the difference.

Hi all.

I also did mine while they were on the truck. Easy. I used those little round cotton makup things....i think that they are called "makeup rounds"...THEY WORK PERFECTLY!!! Much sturdier than cotton ***** but have more area than q-tips.

Just remember to buy the wife some new ones! They ones I got were 2 bucks for about 50 and I only used 10-15.

Mike
