Smile Shock Lengths?

Hello all you shock absorber guru's...I need some help with a possibly dumb question.

As you can see in my signature, I have Firestone Air Bags front and rear with the Bilstein shocks all around. The shocks are what the parts store said I needed for my truck. They are really good shocks, at least I think so anyway...

The question...Since I have the air bags I wonder if I should have put on shocks that are a little taller or ones that have a shorter "stroke" or a longer "stroke"? Reason I ask is it seems the shocks are "overriding" the bags if that makes any sense. I think the shocks are not allowing the full use of the bags.

The truck rides real smooth, corners real well, and all that jazz. I was just wondering if I could better match the shocks to the bags....

Thanks,

The shocks are designed for the stock suspension and the stock suspension travel. In other words the suspension will hit the rubber bumpstops top and bottom before the stock shocks run out of travel.

If you have modified the travel limits of the original suspension, then yes you will probably run into shock problems.

If you are complaining about the effect the shock has as far as ride, I don't know what to tell you there. You can get shocks that ride more or less firm.

Thanks Franklin2...you gave me a couple of ideas...I like Bilstein shocks. I put them on my old motorhome I used to have. Problem with Bilstein is they don't give the extended, collapsed, or travel lengths for the 4600 series I put on my truck.

Anyway, I should have lifted the truck to get the extended, then put some rings on the shock to measure the travel...You know what I mean about the rings?

I think I will play with the air bag pressures since I forgot to let some out of the rear when I unhooked my 5th wheel last Monday...That's probably my problem. Of course if I soften up the rears and a little in the front I will I will be back to the really smooth ride I had before I pulled my 5'ver. Man I am a nut...I knew it all was'nt in my head!

I do love those bags and dampers....
