Well seeing as how I ended up going on for about seven hundred pages about my carburetor woes on the other thread, I figured I'd just start a new one to continue my chronicle of not-knowing-what-I'm-doing and subsequently learning.
Next order of business, I need new belts. They're all obsolete from Ford, so I have been browsing NAPA. My trouble is that they have so many choices for all the belts that I need, and I'm not sure if I'm getting the right ones. And the fan belt is a matched set; does anybody know if they send two as one part, or if I'd have to order two to replace them both? I DO have the original Motorcraft part numbers, if that helps.
And to reiterate my signature for clarification, my truck is a 4.9L with a C6 transmission, no air conditioning. I need a power steering belt, an alternator belt, and the fan belts (and whether they're sold as a pair or not still is to be seen).
I do this at work where we have to replace sets of belts, some up to six matched belts. What we have found is so long as you get the belts from the same mfr, they will usually work pretty well.
RockAuto has the belts.
Goodyear 15415 @$2.03 ea. fan, get 2
Goodyear 17460 @$2.77 ea. PS, I think...
I recommend the Goodyear GatorBack belts first. Second are the Gates belts. The Goodyear belts must be the GatorBacks, if not get the Gates. I have used numerous different types of belts through the years, and those are the only two that I have found to be worth a ****. I also like the Browning belts, but for other applications than automotive.
P.S. I will go out of my way and pay a little extra just to get the GatorBacks.
