Any benefit going from 195* to 180*? Would you want 180* in the winter?
No... The only place I would want or even think about a 180* stat is Summer time use in areas that regularly see over 100* days... I honestly have no issues anywhere in the country with a 195* stat. I would NOT run a 205* stat...
Towing 10,000 + home on Memorial Weekend my water pump let go 200 miles from home and two major passes still to go. Cranky wifey, really cranky two year old twins and I was recovering from a knarly flue. Had to camp out an extra day I was so sick. I had most the tools needed to do the job but there was NO WAY.
I was able to limp it to the only Ford stealership in the area (I was in oil rig country so luckily they worked on tons of Super Duties) and get bent over for $780 for a pump,t-stat and topping off the antifreeze.
It sucked but you have to do what you have to do.
It was my turn in the barrel this past fall when my pump decided to burst a few days before arm surgery so I had to crawl into the losership. My 500 estimate ended up at 900 with fees and taxes. Returned 2 weeks later so they could flush the brown coolant on their dime (it had rotella red coolant and they added green without flushing!). I was speechless when they admitted to knowing about the incompatible coolant but said they only flush when customer requests. Real diesel experts, huh?
My waterpump has been leaking on and off since we went on vacation in July. I have never seen one that stops leaking for awhile then restart again until now
I was finally getting over it until, I re-read this thread, now I am Pissed all over again.
I loved it when I cantacted Ford Customer Service...."There is nothing we can do, Dealers are privately owned" I would think you would want to know when a Dealer is Hosing your customers.
But, it's my fault. I learned a lesson. Written estimates from now on...
