Small oil leak turned massive

So. I have a 1987 Bronco II that had a small oil leak that seemed to be coming from the sensor array for the oil pump. I seem to have gotten that resolved, but, now there is an even larger oil leak that dumped out at least a quart. The engine started making noises like it was choking out and fuel starved. I was going to replace the fuel filter, but the hubby was given the wrong part, which baffles me as I reiterated five times it was for an 87 Bronco II and was very specific about which type I needed. The engine had been doing that choking/fuel starved symptom after gassing up for about a week or two and I was babying it while the part came in. Now, I seem to have this major oil leak in addition to the engine sounding like an asthmatic choker. As it was darkening, I left it alone for the evening. The thing is, it just had an oil change and a tune up about 3 months or so ago and it was fine. It's been a while since I've worked on this sort of vehicle and the Chilton Specs manual is not very helpful as it doesn't seem to cover the specifics I am looking for. Can anyone help me 1. either locate a better Chilton edition for this model or 2. help me narrow down the troubleshooting/localizing the oil leak and reason why the engine is choking out? My first thought of the fuel filter needing replacement doesn't seem to explain the severity, so I'm a bit worried. Thanks in advance. ME

You can check for trouble codes, test fuel pressure, and test with a vacuum gauge in a couple of minutes. One of these 3 quick and simple tests should give you a clue on the bogging down problem. Could be the fuel filter.

If the oil is leaking near the oil filter check for a double gasket on the filter. A couple of years ago after an oil change I had a massive oil leak. Turned out the old filter gasket had stuck to the block. That extra gasket blew out when i first started it & what a MESS.

If your oil psi sender was leaking and you didn't replace it with a new one, look to oil spraying from it now. Make sure you got plenty of oil on the dipstick first before running it. Maybe just look at it, replace it and look again when running. Fuel filter/fuel pump/clean things up.

I've just had the oil sensor open up on mine, not too hard to replace. I would suggest a Haynes manual for the Ranger/Bronco II. I use one, and it also has some electrical charts.
