I have been running John Deere plus 50II 15w40 with 14 oz sfr oil fortifier I been talking to our oil guy at work and he told me a few people are running the John Deere 0w40 synthetic and running 20,000 some miles so I decide to try it it's starting a tad easier so I like that ,, I am also going to send off an oil sample at 5000 miles to John Deere to see what percentage of oil life I have remaining and go from there and see how long I can run it.. What type of oil are you guys running
Good old Shell RotellaT 15w-40 here, the truck has been like that for 280,000 miles. I either run a Motorcraft Fl1995 or Baldwin fliter. I usually change it every 3,000 miles because sometimes I drive less than 5 miles one way or sometimes leave it run for a few minuites.
Rotella, Dello, Delvac, 15-40 or Rotella 5-40 synthetic for me. I have been told by many people many times, Absolutely NO additives in the oil NEVER EVER on a HEUI injected engine! Others here will agree.
I'll bet the John Deere oil is way more expensive than Shell Rotella that most here are running.
I run the 5w40 full synthetic and the Motorcraft FL-1995 filter and I send in samples at each oil drain.....last time BLACKSTONE after 10k on THAT sample recommended going 12k. I think 3k even on conventional oil is overkill, but thats just me.
In the summer I run whatever brand name 15w40 is on sale at the time... for some reason its usually delo or delvac. In the winter I run a 10w-30, last time it was Rotella T5. I might give JD Plus 50 10w-30 a whirl this time...depends on how much it is. I usually change in the 6-7500 range.
Yes John Deere oil is pricy but I work there and get a discount I'm lookin bout 141 for a 5 gallon bucket of 0w40 synthetic and 67 for 15w40 John Deere oil is based from delo John Deere takes the oil and adds their own additive package to it and its a good combo I have re built a few Deere engines and the ones where they used Deere oil it wasn't wear it was because a cracked head over heated engine stuff like that all bearings look new on a 10000 hour engine ... Fathers using other oil like cinex super tms lot of spun bearings plus the engine I clean with the Deere oil I believe in Deere oil to the fullest and also the Deere portion of the oil scan company cuz they know the extra additives in Deere oil
I use Rotell T6 Synthetic. Starts easier and quieter in the winter. Currently use Motorcraft Filters but will look at ordering Mobil 1 filters from the website FilterDump. They have really good prices, even with shipping about the same cost as buying a regular filter at Wally World.
For the last 2 years I have been using 15-40 deezel oil from Tractor Supply! Meets all manf specs. and I fig a farmer can use it in his 1/4 mil $ combine it should be ok for driving down the road! and the price decent also.
Schaeffer full synthetic 9000 series 5w40 with bypass filtration (Donaldson main and Racor bypass oil filters), 15K-18K OCI's... absolutely NO oil additives/fortifiers. Additive chemistry can sometimes not play very well with your engine oil chemistry, and it can actually DECREASE the life and lube capabilities of your engine oil.
I switched from Delo to Rotella and now run Lucas high TBN... Seems like quicker starts, smoother idle with the Lucas. Runs me about $60 a case through a friend, so no complaints. Nothing but Motorcraft filters
