Question AMS Oil

Has anyone ever used AMS Synthetic Oil? Wondering what the thoughts and/or concerns with the product. My son told me about it today, and I just read a testimonial on their website from a truck driver who ran his truck 409,000+ miles w/o changing his oil, just kept up with analysis. Interesting reading how he had minimal damage to major engine components. It definately raised an eyebrow, however, thought I would turn it over to the FTE members to get their reviews.

I assume you mean Amsoil? Some people run it, others don't, you will get a heated debate on this question without much of a conclusion. Some people get upset because some of their products meet API spec but the company hasn't taken the time to actually get it API certified. Others it doesn't matter. In my opinion, the 400,000+ miles without an oil change is not wise regardless of what brand of oil you are running. I have run Amsoil in my 6.0 along with other good brands at different times, the results appear to be the same for me. I test my oil with Blackstone every oil change and let those results be my guide. I do use Amsoil's bypass oil system and filters. I like the all metal construction and it works regardless of which brand of oil I put in the truck.

I run Amsoil. I ran Royal Purple and dino prior, but I didn't know about this site or doing oil analysis' at the time. Thus, I have no results to compare my current results to. I change my oil every 7,500miles based on how these engines shear oil, etc. I know of a guy that went 90,000miles using Amsoil, doing analysis of course, but I choose not to do that with my truck.

I run Amsoil and have for many years. I think when comparing all the mainstream synthetics, it’s largely a matter of personal preference – their all good.

However, I like the fact that Amsoil was the first in the business (1972) and has been at it so long - that says something in and of it self…

I use their 5W-30 Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel Oil and change it at 10k miles or 1 year, whichever comes first. The Amsoil folks say that you can go way past that in terms of mileage, but I prefer to play it safe with my 6.0.

Large class 8 trucks (semi's) use their oil systems differently than our 6.0L motors do.

Our trucks use the oil to fire the injectors, class 8 trucks do not (unless something has changed in recent years).

Class 8 trucks hold more oil capacity and therefore are easier on the oil that is in their motors.

Change your oil every 5,000 miles with a Motorcraft oil filter from Walmart and you will be fine.... and money ahead.

I too have used AIMSOIL in the past on various applications and could not see enough difference to justify the added costs of the product. You would think that because of this added cost, they would at least have their oil certifed by others than themselves,

My last oil change I finally changed over to Synthetic, used the Rotella 5w-40 Synthetic. I change my oil religiously at 5000 miles, which to most would seem a little excessive, but I just hit 200,000 miles last week, and I plan on getting another 200,000 out of her. Never thought about what you mentioned Beachbum, I've worked on several DT-466's in my day, just didn't put 2 and 2 together. I didn't post that with the intent on abusing my oil changes, just thought it was quite impressive. Far as I'm concerned, oil samples or not, that guy needs to have his head examined running that many miles between changes!

I'v used amsoil in my last two trucks 99 7.3,04 6.0 and now my 06 6.0. I change every 10,000 or 5 months, it's usually 10,000 though I really like it haven't had any issues
