This is my first time posting in a forum :-/. I have a 1985 F150 that i am restoring and have run into an issue. I put a fully rebuilt 302 with brand new clutch, master, slave and line in it. I am having trouble putting it into 1st gear sometimes. It doesnt happen everytime but mostly after coming to a stop. It gives some resistance then it grinds and goes in. My clutch pedal seems to be a little soft and it catches near the floor. Any thoughts?
Ok I have bleed it a few times by pumping it then having it held down and opening the allen screw on the slave. It doesnt seem to help at all. Any suggestions on a different more effective way?
Also I read that it you drive it around it will work it out but i have been driving it a bit and no change.
Also check your firewall for flexing and cracks and rust. A very common issue on your year truck. You used to be able to by a reinforcing plate from Ford, but you'll have to make your own at this point.
It was quite solid when i installed the new master cylinder but i will double check it.
Does anyone know exactly what the adjustment rod under the dash for the clutch does? I dont know how to adjust it or where it should be and if that could be effecting it.

Actually, the reinforcement plates are still available, but only in the aftermarket. They are made by Terrapin Manufacturing and cost about $100. check out: Terrapin Manufacturing.
