Hydraulic Clutch Problem

I have an 85 F150 300-6 with the NP 435 4 speed. The hydraulic clutch seems a little finnicky. After a while when you push the clutch pedal in it doesn't fully disengage the transmission from the engine. It gets to be almost impossible to to put the truck in 2nd gear from a standing start. Iv'e pulled the **** off several times trying to get it into gear. Going into reverse is a grinding affair. Sometimes you can see a few air bubbles near the master cylinder. If you take the cap off and work the clutch pedal a couple hundred times it will usually fix itself. That will last up to a week and the problem starts over again. So the question is what makes this happen in the first place? The master cylinder is new. Are there any adjustments I can make?

Check the lines from the clutch master cyl to the slave clyinder on the bellhousing. have somebody work the clutch and you crawl under and see if the line leaks at all.

Are you having to add any fluid? If not, then there is no cracks anywhere, or such, because it would lose fluid if it had ANY hioles in the system. Have someone push the clutch pedal and watch the firewall, these trucks have a history of cracking the firewall. There is a kit from Ford for $15 that will fix the problem. It sounds a lot like my truck was when I got it, and after I put the reinforcement kit in, it solved the problem.

There is a little movement in the firewall, maybe a 1/16 of an inch. There is also a little movement in the slave cylinder as it pushes the piston against the arm of the transmission.

ok, then that won't be the problem, the slave will be the suspect, mine was moving over 1/2", almost 1". The rod should be snug against the fork.
