I tore into the rear bed area of my pickup yesterday. It appears it was amatuer night at the body shop. The rear posts were badly damaged and poorly repaired. They also welded the rear bed crossmember incorrectly so there is not ample room under the flange for the bed boards. With this said and the state of the bed sides I am seriously thinking of replacing both bed sides rather than just the posts and making much quicker work of it all.
Has anyone done either and where did you get your parts? I have found them at Mid Fifties and LMC. Is there quality differences known?
You also may want to check out Mar-K Products (Oklahoma City). I think they have all the components for a '55 bed. I used their products (manufactured in OKC) for a bed replacement a few years back. I was very impressed with the product, ease of assembly, customer support, and (not least) price.
I have assembled a couple of Mar-K beds...high quality and true to OEM specs. Additionally, they offer some pretty good pricing with free shipping when they have their beds on sale.
Mack Hils is where many of the aftermarket distributors get their bed parts from. You can buy parts or whole kits and his quality is great. You won't regret going with new parts for your bed.
