ok, what's the deal with our democrats leaving the state? I say we all go up there, drag them back, then tar and feather them.

I think it's a load of crap. How can they think it's in our best interest when it is costing us money for them to 1) make a point, 2) have a vacation, and 3) throw a temper tantrum. It's the classic kid on the play ground that if everyone doesn't let him win he will take his ball and go home so no one can play.

Clay, I like your idea but that's the least we should do.

Welcome to the world of politics. Re-districting is the most partisan issue government faces. Apparently there is some shifty things going on with this re-districting and due to the Democrats not having the votes to fight it, they fight it this way. I guess they got the publicity they desired for their issue. It's not right, and it does hurt our state and us. But both sides share the blame in this. If the roles were reversed I doubt things would have gone much differently. Now that their is a great deal of people watching this issue, I think the side that gives in first will gain a great deal of respect for being able to compromise on such a volatile issue.

The problem is this isn't an issue that directly affects the voters or the people's interest. This issue deals solely with party politics and who gets into office. It's the evil of having a primarily two party system. Politician's are not so much a representative of their people and their people's wants, they are a slave to their party's wants and interests. In this case the Republicans have the opportunity to strengthen their voting base and the likely-hood that more Republicans will be voted to office in the future. And as long as they keep the majority then they can do more things like this. The Democrats don't have the votes to fight it, and have pulled this publicity stunt to draw attention to what is occuring, and keep the vote from occuring to prevent this forced re-districting.

The problem is bigger than Democrats vs. Republicans, it's politics in general. This is a can of worms I could go on about for awhile, but then we'll get into a great deal more than this one issue. I just hope all of you educate yourself on your candidates for election and exercise your right to vote and put good people in place to represent you properly. My 2cents.

i had an intersting conversation with someone today... and their solution to the problem was very simple, and i think quite effective. You calculate all the money that this fiasco has cost...i mean for everything..... and for what it is going to cost for the special session then bill them. After this blows over and elections come around you bring it back up in the news....and blast the ones who have yet to pay thier dues and remind the voters of their cowardly ways...........however that tar and feathering sounds pretty good too.

I wish they'd stayed up there! It was the first time since the killer bees did the same same thing in 79 that the state was safe from the legislature.
