I don't have an edge, but thanks for conforming what I suspected. When I tow, I never see the truck go into active regen. I think the EGTs are just up enough that a passive regen works.
As far as how long it takes an active regen to finish, the longest I've seen is 15 minutes. If I actually notice and care about the AR, I'll switch the DIS to fuel economy where you get the bar graph history. I changed my bars to be 5 minutes. During an active regen, the bars are all below my average MPG despite being light-footed on the throttle. Once the bars reach or pass average MPG, then I know an active regen is done. It's usually 2-3 bars where it's below average MPG, then the next bar shoots up.
Az Elk, What is the problem with it doing regens? Heck most of the time I never even notice mine doing a active regen unless I happen to catch it on the gauges. It's not like you can hear a big difference in engine noise or loose power during the process.
I just let the truck do it thing and drive like it's a non-event. I don't extend my drives to finish a regen. Unless you get a Drive to Clean message, Which I've had two in 70,000 miles. I've just stopped being concerned about Active regens.
There are a number of things that contribute to how often you get an active regen, Your fuel that you are burning, The oil you are using, how you drive, will all affect how much soot is created and trapped by the DPF.
I agree, no issues with regens here. I have the edge insight and often I don't even know they are occuring. The only issue I have with the regens is when one is in process and I'm ready to park the truck...I don't really like shutting the truck down with EGT1 temps in the high 500 range, I feel like that heat will just rise back up to the turbo and over time could do some bad things. It doesn't happen that often and if I have time, I let the truck idle down and get that temp down a bit before shutting down.
The bit of info I noticed with the last oil report is there is less fuel in the oil when AR's are fully completed.
I've always had 2%-3% fuel.
Last oil change I went out of my way during an AR as an experiment and the report came back as <0.5%.
I also don't shut down if an AR has been running.
EGT1 is over 500 for awhile.
I shut down under 400 or after the turbo gives it's big sigh of relief after it's idle down cycle.
So we drove 2000 miles round trip to myrtle beach with our camper this last week.1960 of it highway.. I have a edge insight and ive read that the regen happens when your soot level is 2.65 give or take.. Having been on highway 65 moh entire trip soot never got above 1.9 or so..Didnt notice a regen on my edge all the way down but got one on way back home. I caught the splash screen message and then saw the red r on edge. The soot level was only 1.32 and it regened. That was the only one entire trip and that was at about 1600 miles into trip. Is that strange or no?..Watched egt during regen and git up to around 1200 so I know it was a regen.Soot was around .8 or .9 when done in around 12 minutes..I just thought it wasnt supposed to happen at that soot level?
On a side note truck towed our 10 k camper great with no issues except the torrential down pours on way down and up and the entire vacation at beach! Awesome!!Flash flood on thursday ... Couldnt wait to get home..
If the soot level never reaches the threshold value within a maximum number of miles (as in about 650 miles or so), the regen is started regardless based on some maximum number of miles (or so it seems).
As far as your values are concerned, they seem very low. Every regen complete, the ECM "recalibrates" the soot level. Maybe it'll change over the course of the next cycle and report more "normal" values.
My last regen kicked in at 2.71 and shut off at 1.86 and continued to drop to 1.6 because of the heat and i was still driving i dont know why it shuts off so early since the nox reflash

Mine is nearly exactly the same except that the regen light comes on at 2.67 and the soot level will still be climbing to 2.71 or so before it starts to come back down. It then continues to drop well after the light turns off, down to 1.3 or so (EGT4 still around 1000).
Yesterday i had another regen and i was coming onto the highway as it was getting to 2.65 and i hammered it up the on ramp and the regen started and egt4 went up to 1100 degrees and stayed there and the soot dropped quick but the regen stopped after 4 miles at 1.56 and it font nued to drop to 1.27 in 2-3 more miles egt were still around 1100 for awhile. Usually i see a regen and egt4 stays around 700 and drops quick when its finished
To get the soot number you need to purchase a "Edge Insight CTS". With out it is is possible to miss a AR (Active Regen).
The NOX update is a update that ford is putting on the trucks. I have seen complaints that trucks are regenning more often and that MPG have failing after the update.
I have driven my 2012 some 5300 miles only get that flash that pops up ever so ofter for exhaust cleaning. I am not sure if have ever seen any type of regen. I have pulled my fifth wheel and my bass boat frequently.
