Dreaded Sunroof problem

Hi All

So I have a 2003 Navigator and it has the same sunroof that many of the ford trucks had with the 150 250 350 expedition etc

you open it, and hear the "crack" and now it's stuck open.

I guess this is a common problem with this unit - I know I can get a kit to fix it (actually are some better than others, or are they all the same?)

Is there anyway to just cover the hole? - I haven't even called around yet, but I think the dealer is gonna want $2000 to fix this, since it's a decent size job.

or, is there a trick to just get the unit to retract and lock in the closed position? - I don't need to use it, but before it starts getting colder and esp snow etc, I need it fixed one way or the other.

Anyone have this problem? what did you end up doing in the short term?

Thanks

You probably have to go in there and find out what broke. If it's something that connects the motor to the sunroof, you should be able to close it manually from there. Do you hear the motor spinning when you push the button?
