I'm not sure of the year, but the 390 in my 75 did not come with the 75. It came with a 360. My question is, what can I expect to pay to rebuild the 390, and get 400 horse out of it? also, how muck do I have to change?
do a search over in the fe section and will be alot more help.
400hp, cam, higher compression, aluminum intake, port polish, headers, dual exhaust, bigger carb, head work... so on and so on but thats agood start...
go to survival motor sports and add it all in your cart for agoog price guestimate then call local machine shoppe.
figure around a couple grand
I like the idea about survival motor sports. I was guessing upwards of $4500. To $5000. So maybe I will get lucky and it will be less.
Thanks for the info.
You also might check around to your local engine rebuilders and ask for quotes on what you want done (if you want to pay for all of it or check on pricing for machine work if you are going to do more of the work yourself). Also, get recommendations from people who have used the engine builder/machine shop, it will save you a lot of headaches later.
When I rebuilt my 390 (last year) I had the block bored +.030" and finish honed, hot tanked, new cam bearings installed, hardened exhaust seats, new valve guides, heads surfaced, exhaust side surfaced (don't want exhaust leaks), the rotating assy. balanced. The block was checked and didn't need surfacing or align boring. Valves were ground. The machine shop assembled the heads using parts that I supplied (new stainless steel exhaust and +.030" oversize head intake valves, springs, stem seals, retainers and locks), The shop supplied the seats and guides.
All together machine work ran me right at ~$945.00
Here's the results.
check out survivals stroker kits,410ci for 2G and thAt 445 stroker for just 300more!
thAt will get you to that 400hp goal and then some pretty quickly! just left w/machine work and a few other smAll things. probly not more than 4G as long as you dont get too carried away!
im leaning to that 445 for my truck very shortly, unless i find 428 block, can you say 465 stroker?!!

My computer did a crash dive, so I dont know if my reply got through.
Man that engine looks nice. What kind of horse power and torque did you end up with? Also, like I said before, I'm not sure of the year of my 390. Is there a way that I may be able to find out? I will take the block in and have it gone thru. I will also have the heads rebuilt. I will do the tear down and assembly myself.
