I'll be putting on new cab mounts on my 78 F100 LWB, I think it still has the original ones, what are the best ones to get? I'd like to make the old girl as smooth and quiet as possible, what torque do the cab mounts need to have? Also are there any more tricks for making these trucks have less NVH (noise vibrations and harshness) and making them drive more like a car and less like a truck?
I replaced mine with the polyurethane kit from Jeffs Bronco graveyard. Some folks say the OEM rubber mounts ride better, I cant say. I think the poly will hold up better in the long run, my front mounts were noticeably compressed after 35 years though, maybe they had been mushed for the last 10, who knows. I just torqued the hardware down until it got tight and wouldnt turn anymore, if you look at the hardware, its designed to interlock together and not allow it to compress the bushings.
I'm trying to make the truck have that nice quiet rubber mounted cocoon type feeling that you get when you drive a new car.. No rattles, smooth suspension that absorbs the bumps, no wind noise, things like that which add up

Umm you do realize you have a truck that's nearly four decades old, these were work trucks back in the day, no frills, creature comforts were of no concern.
That's one reason i despise modern trucks, they're too "car like" for my taste.
gonna take some work to cut down on all the noise. it is possible. just be ready to spend a little money to do this. a friend has a 74 f-100 and we spent better part of a months worth of weekends putting sound deader in along with insluation every where we could. it weird for me cause the doors sound differnt when they close now.
Hi all.I went and purchsed new hardware for cab mt bushings and energy sus.bushings.They came in yesterday. So my friend calls up I havnt talked to in a year or so,he is a tractor trailer Mech. for 35 some years, tells me yes the poly will last a long time but original rubbers give you a better ride.everybody seams to be pro poly here, but when you put them side by side the oem seams alot tougher,so now im leaning too oem
Im checking with my local Ford dealer,my truck is going to be used to pull a trailer coal hauler, farm truck, and 3 season hardcore good looking truck,I wont be grinding it in the woods so I think Im staying with rubber
