Have your coolant systems worked on recently or did you do some work on them? Air in the system does all manner of bad things. Maybe be worth doing a coolant test and see if contaminated or need some revitalizer. Mike

If its really doing strange things and your dealer won't diagnose it, you need to go to a different dealer, take a tech for a ride so they can see what's happening, and go from there.

It is pretty simple if you can just find a tech that will help you.

Just got back in town from another trip to the mountains. Empty truck only, no towing. Upon engine start and leaving for home, OAT 65 deg F. The fan came on at startup, as part of warmup mode I assume. Engine oil temp came up to 195 within 5 miles; it took 30 miles for trans temp to get up to 170. The fan NEVER shut off for the entire 100 mile drive home. The dealership I bought the truck from did perform a road test back in June. All temp within spec and fan clutch operating normally (they say). So they quit looking for anything else. Is it possible a thermostat could be opening part-way, and the fan could keep things in check? I'm thinking if it was a sensor, other sensors would catch the problem. All I know is the fan shouldn't be running as much as it is, and I'm about to end the Ford experiment if it can't be fixed.

Stuck fan is not unheard of. Time for a new fan.

yup...first time (up to eight now) I had to take the truck in for repairs, the issue was a howling fan. It took some pushing to get the service writer to hook up the IDS and have the tech take it for a ride. A five minute drive told the competent tech that it needed a new fan clutch at 3500 miles...well at least Ford warrantied that repair...

Regards
