I have a 92 F150 with a solid chrome bumper (does not have the rubber strip). I'm looking for some off road lighting but am having a hard time figuring out how to mount the suckers. I would prefer to use a light bar either on the roof or front above the bumper. I have caution lights already mounted in the grill. The only bar options I can find cost $300+
Would anyone recommend drilling holes in the top of my bumper? I would rather not but don't see many other options. besides a roof clamp or bed roll bar + light bar.
Also i have no experience with fab shops, what is an average price for a small job like this?
I drilled holes in the bumper of my K5 to mount some cheap wal-mart specials but they are always getting knocked out of aim. Maybe because they're cheap or because they're not far enough back to be protected. Something to be aware of.
hmm... I have seen the Carr ones but that is the lowest price I've seen them for, thanks! I would rather have the second option but have no clue how it would mount. my bumper has no holes and is basically dangling there and pretty much no mount points under it that i can see right away unless you attach to the bumper horns that are about 6" from the bottom of the bumper.
I'll see if I can post some pics tonight to give people a better idea of what i got. In a perfect world I'd have a skid plate front bumper prerunner style and mount them there but i think they are way over my budget. Ones I've seen are $1k+ and require mods which wouldn't be too hard. I have lots of tools but no welder lol.
The bar will likely either mount to the existing bolts (unbolt your bumper and it lines up with the bolt holes) or you will have to drill holes and bolt it to the bumper. You could also get a headache rack/cab guard and mount the lights on that.
Check the auto parts section of craigslist and the local salvage yards for used light mounts. You can get a good deal that way.
You know I was looking at those but again $300+ I'm trying to stay under $200 LOL!
This is my first truck and just got it not too long ago. I'm thinking i want a canopy but then I think maybe not. maybe I'll get a roll bar instead but then i can't have a canopy for "camping".... its a hard choice lol.
I have a canopy on my truck and I hate it. I might hate it less if it had the side hatches but it's a PITA to get stuff that ends up near the front. I've been trying to sell it for about 3 months now. Whenever I camp and sleep in the bed of the truck I pull a tarp over the top, sometimes stick some poles in the stake pockets at the back. The tarp does a decent job holding in body heat, especially when you keep it nice and low. It's cheap, and you have full access to the bed the rest of the time.
lol using a tarp sounds so ghetto but i do live in the ghetto so...
Come to think of it after looking at the picture, I think a canopy would look stupid. I really want a roll bar in the bed but not sure if i can find one cheap. My neighbor has always had one in the back of his truck when i was growing up so maybe that's where I get it from :P
So its a themed paint job. Supposed to be a zombie getaway truck so imagine plowing through crowds of zombies. I wanted to paint blood splatter and smeary hand prints but my mom says I wouldn't be able to sell it later if I do that and she does have a point but overall I'm an adult and can make my own decision. I haven't decided yet.
checked craigslist for roll bars and there are a surprising amount. found one with lights for $300 needs to be painted but I would be painting it anyway to match the truck. Might need new lights too but I think $300 is fair. I think it would fit but I gotta measure first Lighted Roll Bar for a Ful Size Truck
So I bought it for $250 I probably coulda got it for less. the lights are incredible and have the led halo glow effect too. Only problem is that the lights are not wired up. Someone cut the wires at each of the lights. some wires are sticking out the bottom of one of the pipes but its not connected to anything. Now I've gotta go buy tons of wire, switches, relays, and connectors. Good thing i have experience working on electrical stuff. should be getting my caution flashers in the mail today. Just got my led rear brake light bar. I'll post a pic when im done with it in a few days
