Outside Temp Gauge

I did a search but didn't find anything. The Outside Temp gauge on my 2002 Explorer is suddenly reading WAY high. Was in the 80s yesterday and it was reading 130*. Anyone had this problem?

Sounds like you have a bad Ambient Air Temperature Sensor. I got a new one at the dealer, It was about $40, and is real simple to change.

Check out write-up on how to change it: How To: Replace 3rd Gen Ambient Air Temperature Sensor - Ford Explorer Ranger Enthusiasts "Serious Explorations"®

Good luck. Hope this helps out!!

I wonder if 130 degrees is the rail reading that would happen if there were an open (or short).

Thanks, BigRondo. For responding and for the great writeup. Looks like an easy fix once you have the info. I'll pick one up and install it. Its hot enough in North Carolina without having the temp overstated by 30-50*!!
