I just got back from hauling a tractor for a guy and he asked me if I knew anyone looking for a project truck. He has a '74 F-250 2x4, 390 with a c6 auto Camper Special.
The fenders are holey, no, not religious (now they will know).
The inners are good,
The tires are good but split rims scare me.
Power steering and brakes.
Radiator support is shot along with the cab mounts.
The floors are good except for where they meet the cab mounts.
The bed has the token wheel well holes that I can fit my fist into.
The gate is shot.
The doors were repaired but not that good.
It shouldn't take much to make them solid.
He said he drove it into the barn about 3 years ago and the engine ran and tranny shifted good.
He has the front clip off of the truck now. He has new cab mounts in the bed along with sheetmetal for the floors.
The seat is very nice, the dash only has one small crack and the best part about it is that the truck has a documented 39,000 miles!.
I asked how much he wanted and told me to make an offer. He said he wasn't expecting to get what he has into the truck and the only thing he has into the truck is the cost of the truck itself and two cab mounts.
What should I offer the old farmer for the beast?
I'm about done with my '71 project so it's time to get in the time machine and restore something from the next body style.
It is a total basket case project truck. Sounds like the body will require extensive renovation. The running gear will have to be completely overhauled also. The tires are probably rotted or cracking and new rims will be required to avoid those split rims.
I would want to hear it run and drive it if possible. A poor body and a questionable runner is not worth a whole lot, 200 or 300 hundred dollars tops but one that runs ok and drives ok might be worth up to a 1000 or so. Just my opinion
Thanks for the quick replies guys. Maybe I'll go out on Saturday with jump box and 5 gallons of gas to see if I can give it life. I was thinking along the lines of a couple hundred. He said it wouldn't take much to get him to sell. I'll keep you posted on what happens and any more thoughts are welcome. Thanks again, Ted

The frame is very good. If I could trade him for moving tractors I would but his other tractor is an International 1066. Just a little too big for my trailer.

Just means you need to upgrade to a bigger truck and trailer
I just want to say first of all, where do you guys find these 2-300 parts trucks? I live in Georgia and I searched high and low for a project and had to pay a grand for a 79 F-100 Explorer to restore and parts trucks are not out there down here. Maybe people are still driving them around, I do see a lot of them still on the road. Hell, they are Fords, they run forever.
