Hello all, im new to the forum and also owning a vehicle as im 18 which leads to very limited funds unfortunately. i bought a 1999 f250 with the 7.3L powerstroke turbo diesel. Unfortunately however the guy who sold it to me failed to mention it was a theft recovery which completely messed up the ignition. i didnt realize till days after the deal was done the key could slide right out while the truck was running wthout effecting it. so i started to investigate and found that the whole lock cylinder slides right out. the very tip of it had broken off inside the steering colum. from there i started looking to try and take the colum apart to get into where the broken piece is and i couldnt see any way to do that. being that i have next to no money to fix this i figured instead of trying to replace the colum i would try to avoid it as a whole by wiring a push button start for much cheaper. i ran toggle switches from the ignition switch in order to mimic accesory and run, then wired the push button to the starter solinoid i believe? (its on the passenger side fender next to the battery?) anyways this worked for about 30 minutes then as i was on my way to work the truck just died as i was driving. i popped the hood and ended up finding that it was blowing the main computer fuse.(30watt maxi fuse dont know if that matters) i tried replacing the fuse and now there blowing on the attempted start up. I'm by no means even close to a mechanic but i know that all my wiring was neat, clean and not loose, my grounds were good and solid. so i guess what im asking is did i go about wiring this the wrong way? is it even possible to avoid this situation by wiring a push button start? if so any tips or directions preferably step by step would be greatly appreciated.
