Looking for some advice, just picked up a 77 F150 Ranger XLT it has a seized 460 in it. What I'm looking for is the most simple not necessarily the most economical motor to swap it out with. it has a C6 transmission. I'm more about simplicity and dependability then flash and performance, opinions would be appreciated
you could get a long block from nearly any year and just swap your existing oil pan, intake, valvecovers, and exhaust manifolds.
then you could try and rebuild the one that is locked up and sell it, or swap it back in if it is the original.
otherwise a 429 would be the next choice, but i would think those might not be as easy to find.
then, the 351m/400 would be the next choice. you'd have to make sure it is complete and has the right oilpan. then you'd likely have to adjust the exhaust and the trans linkage.
that's my thoughts .... free advice is worth exactly what you pay for it, though.
Replacing it with the same kind of engine will be the most simple. With that being said why not rebuild the original engine? Just because it is seized does not mean its junk.Unless the the block is damaged it should be able to be repaired. Good luck.

Thats what I am saying. Why get rid of a 460? If it is just seized and the block is good, rebuild that engine.
