I have a 1977 F-150 two wheel drive. It originally had a 351M in it. I am finding it impossible to find another 351M or a 400 to rebuild up here in North Dakota. Anyway to make a long story short, I got a really good deal on a 300 I-6 which is fine with me. What I need to know is, is this a straight in swap. If not what all will I have to change. The truck currently has a NP 435 tranny in it. Any info will be greatly appreciated.
[font color=red size=3]It's not a straight swap, but can be done. You will have to change the bell housing, motor perches, exhaust, accessory brackets, hoses, throttle linkage, ect.
Is your current 351m rebuildable, you would be better off taking that one to a machinist and having it rebuilt. Even better yet, have it made into a 400. Then it would all bolt up and you would have more power than that I6 could even dream about. -but that's just my opinion.

how about a 460 they are a dime a dozen here in massachussets one very big step is it is almost impossible to find a flywheel for these through ford i think they are about $400 or so dollors but ther is a place that has all the engine swap info for your ford that i have found to be very helpful is L&L products their # is 1-800-526-0064 they have all the motor mounts and flywheel clutch anything you need the bell housing is the same for 351m/400/429/460 and in my experiance the 460 has gotten better milege than my old 351 bigger doesnt work so hard all this will depend on condition of doner engine and your piggy bank of course but ultimatly if you had a 351 maybe rebuild would be best
also any of the1970s lincoln would be a good donner engine if equiped with 429/460 good luck gary
