I just happened to swing by Ford dealer just to peek. Needing to buy a new/used car soon. I have a 2005 e250 for work and am looking for a commuter car. Want to let my son drive my truck so it`ll rest a bit. Found a really nice 2010 Mustang with like 6k on the odometer. 20k. Super clean but come to find out its a V6. I thought it was a V8, coulda sworn that was on sticker.
Are the V6`s gutless? Wife has a 4runner V6 that is imo. Worried if I buy it then down the road I`ll be wishing I had more in the pedal. Thoughts?????
I don't think gutless is a word you'd use to describe the newer V6's. If I remember right, they are rated higher in HP and torque than my '88 GT with a 5.0 and it's a riot to drive. If you like it, I wouldn't discount it just because of the motor.
EDIT: Looks like I was wrong. (big shock there) The '10 V6 was rated at 210 hp, whereas my 5.0 is somewhere around 225 hp. Still, I'd drive it with an open mind...
Pretty sure the "new" V6's started in 2011. MAKE SURE you get the one with 305 HP or you'll have 80 or so less with the previous year's model. The NEW V6's are getting way over 30 MPG on the highway. Heck I can easily get 25+ with my Boss 302.
That price is insane, they weren't $20K new back then unless it is a vert. MY Bullitt only cost a few thousand more than that new. Just test drive it to get an idea of the power, it was the same V6 they used for years and years, not a ton of power but reliable and ok mileage. I get 22-23 with the 4.6L. Get a '09 or older and you don't get the ugly *** end on them.
even though the new v-6's are packing a big whallop , they are stil a v-6 and cannot move stir the soul like a v-8 with grumbly exhaust . even a low hp v-8 seems to just feel like it pulls harder and has the ability too deceive you into thinking your driving something special . always a v-8 man , and will never be able to convince myself to buy a ponycar with a six cylinder . when i bought my 95 gt 'vert , the wife wanted the v-6 . the 5.0 got dain near the same mileage , the v-6 wasn't cheaper after you loaded it up , the insurance was just as high , and to me it felt " cheap " due too the little motor . needless to say we got the gt , and even got gt-40 package of heads etc. from the parts counter and had the dealer install it before we took delivery . after driving it even she liked it so much better than the v-6 one ................ the only good six cylinder ford ever made was the 300 six . in a truck those things did everything any v-8 could , and wore like iron and dain near never broke ....
I had a 5.0, the first year 87? with t tops and they leaked after a few years so Im done with top ventilation. I do love the rumble. Hell thats why I tricked out my diesel. I was going today but got sidetracked so I`ll look again manana.
'82 was the first year of the 5.0L back in the Mustang. It had a two barrel carb and made about 150 HP. The '83 had a Holley 4 barrel and made 175 HP. '85 went to 225 HP, but the '86 was the first year of fuel injection and power backed off to 205 HP, if I remember that right.
Dont want a vert and now Im leaning towards a new one. I do REALLY appreciate any input so THANKS
There are lots of Mustang forums to look at, and lots of good info there. There are a lot of options out there: year/body style, 6 or 8, special editions, etc. The one I'm envious of is the Terlingua supercharged V6 that puts out a bunch of HP in a unique package. Not many were built though. If you are willing to go a little more $ or used the new 5.0 is a spectacular engine. But in the new V6's defense it puts out as much as much HP as an SVT Cobra did 10 years ago, while being the first engine ever to put out 305HP with 30+ MPG. Very few complaints from the owners as well. Supercharge it and you'd have crazy good fun!
well to me it's a v8 or it better be dain cheap . i just grew up on the local dirt tracks , drag strips , and everyone in the family had a classic or muscle car or hot truck , and nothing else will ever be able to replace a v8 . i admire some of the numbers these new motors pull down but i am a dinosaur myself and no 4 or 6 , or 10 , or 12 cylinder variation can replace the v8 . you can always swap a v8 into it if you get it at the right price !!!!!!!!!!!!!
