Ok I know everyone is going to tell me to do a search..which I already have. Read my fair share of replies to this subject. However it seems I can't get the answer I'm looking for. Back story bought my first 7.3l 02 F250 4x4 crew cab 331,000 k. Been all highway with very little towing. After purchase I've changed all fluids, belt, tensioner,CAC hoses and added a 6637 mod. Completly stock otherwise with new tires. Trying to get mpg I have kept acceleration slow and under 2k rpm. Cruising @ 65 and 55 and only averaging 14.5-15.5 seems low to me but wondering what the masses think? Also would anyone be affraid of chipping a motor with this much experience?
Test for boost leaks.
Look for signs of leaky up pipes.
EBP tube.
EBP sensor?
Fuel pressure regulator...or all around fuel bowl reseal.
Maybe tired injectors?
Time for new injector orings anyway eh?
How do the fins on your compressor wheel look?
Is there soot on the back of your compressor housing?
Is there soot anywhere you can see in the exhaust area?
Was plaining on taking EBP line off and checking. Could it be plugged and not throw a code? No fuel tank mods, exhaust leaks are not existent, Turbo fins are a little discolored but no damage and no movement.
The EBPS can be clogged and not throw a code, easiest way to verify is too view the live data on a scanner. You should see it start at atmospheric pressure and rise with boost.
I dont know much on this subject because mine is pretty much new to me. But compared to mine 00 F250 4X4 216k, it seems kind of low. I average about 16.5 driving normally, going a lot above 2 grand because of the hills in my area. And when I bought my 03 Dodge Cummins, the dealership told me right off the bat you need to open them up. So I take those driving habits to my F250 now and make sure she stretches her legs sometimes.
It has been my experience.. that taking the advice of a dealer... ever... is a devastating mistake.

Xtof
Maybe on some things, this I dont know. But my Dodge has 298k on it and has never had any major problems at all. Ive done regular maitenance like oil changes, brakes, shocks, tires, ect. A major issue with them was the ball joints and Im still on my orignal ones with no problems. No turbo issues, no injector issues, no tranny issues, so to me the dealership telling me to open these up some hasnt seemed to hender anything yet.
I think you are right on. I am CCSB 4x4 and get 13-15mpg tank to tank. I can get 18-19 freeway. Thats CAN. Last week I got 13mpg freeway. But I was doing 70 and the whole trip is uphill and there are two major grades on that path. Plus it was 100 degrees or more so the clutch fan was on, plus my AC.
Yesterday I got 17 mpg average for the first time and I was happy to get it. I have a 2001 7.3 Crew Cab 4x4 long bed 95k. Only modifications are upgraded turbo boots from Ripp Raff? Everything else is entirely stock. I believe my mileage was good on that tank because I was going easy around 55. Pulling my trailers I average about 13.
Well I am new to the 7.3 and I have 4" exhaust and AR filter and box but big tires and lift. I filled up yesterday till the first click off on the pump and drove to Nashville and back. 170 miles. Came back and capped off to the first click again at the pump. 10 gal meaning I got 17MPG on that run. GREAT in my book. First leg was with air on, last leg off. 80 outside. Never did over 70 and for some of the ride it was 60 due to work on the road. 150K on the truck. Auto trans. If I can make that happen again I am keeping it cause that was all I got in my 5.4 gasser. Goodtimes!!
