Okay guys so when i start up my truck everythin is fine good pressure and all that good stuff, but when i go down the road a little ways evrything is fine until i let the engine idle, i lose all oil pressure once it gets heated up unless i hit the gas, when i hold the gas down the pressure builds back up, any idea what this could be??

A worn out engine. If you get lucky (which I have never seen it happen) it will just be the sending unit. After that comes either oil pump or crankshaft main bearings (most likely). If bearings you need to either rebuild or replace your engine.

Yep, sounds worn out to me. Heavier oil will help some.

If you are using a stock oil psi gauge, get a mechanical or aftermarket elec, your pressure may possibly not be as bad as you think it is, the stock gauges arent very accurate after 30 years, never were, really.

You can bring up the pressure by using a high volume (not high pressure) oil pump and switching to a heavier grade of oil (straight 50W). This will probably bring the oil pressure up some and will give you a little time but this is just treating the symptom not curing the cause, yup, a worn out bottom end.
X2 on using an aftermarket mechanical OP gauge. When you're diagnosing a problem never rely on factory gauges.

My guess is that your problem is worn camshaft bearings, not your oil pump, sending unit, or main bearings. The engine is probly just due for a rebuild. If you don't have the loot to get one done, you could always duralube it and hope for the best. I've done that on engines with oil pressure issues before, and it's bought me enough time (1-2 yrs) to get the money together to either get a rebuild or have it done.

Make sure you still have some oil pressure when you give it gas. And you really need to be careful about how you drive it too. That duralube thing works, but the idea isn't to be able to take an old worn out engine and drive it hard.
