I have been fixing up a 79 f100. The cab on the truck is ruff and is going to need a lot of body work. So i have been looking around for maybe a extra cab to replace it with . I came across a 1976 F-700 cab in excellent shape and the cab looks like it is the same as a f-100 - f-350 except the position of the steering column and the dash looks different but that is it. Does any 1 no of any other differences or if it is even the same ,as it looks too me?
I have a 78 cab on my 77 and a 79 cab on my 76 both my 77 & 76 are 4x4s and both the cab's I put on were 2wd's so I had to cut the tranny covers of both to put on the 4x4 cover only other thing I came across in my projects was the cab I put on my 76 F150 was off a 79 F350 & the rear cab mount hole's are set wide on it so I had to redrill the rear cab mount hole's. but being both both the ones your working with are F150's you should be good to go. theirs little things that wont be the same. like the name badges on the 78 are on the cowl and the 76's are on the fender. Trying to think if their was anything else but nothing's coming to mind at the moment
I prolly miss read the F700 part. lol. I was pretty tired last nite. my guess is you'll run into the wide cab mounts and anything inside you can swap around back to your F100 dash/wiring & whatnot. been a long while since I been in one of the big hog's.
the steering colum hole mite be the biggest issue but nothing you can't fix with a little welder action
The differences i noticed are the steering column, door handles are different from left to right , the dash, how the fender aprons mount to the cab, and something about the firewall i just cant put my finger on it . I will take some better pics when I can get a chance. But for the most part the cab looks the same as far as size and its shape so all other is fixable.
The main thing that grabbed my attention about the cab and i have looked at them for months just looking for a roof skin , is were it is so rust free.
So when i seen it i thought i would see if it would swap since it cost less that what i would be spending in patch panels for my f 100 cab.
I'll see if I still have a pic of my friends cab maybe I can spot anything else beside's teh steering hole.
I didnt even notice the door handle's before. lol
