I have got a new power steering pump and purged the lines. It had stiff steering before and it hasn't imporved since the new power steering pump. I even have it jacked up off the ground so no tire is touching. It has had the death wobble which I believe was caused by the gear box. Any thoughts?
Does your truck have hydroboost? If so, do the brakes have issues (hard stopping, stiff pedal, etc)?
If yes, check the pressure and return hoses (all of them) for soft spots anywhere. Maybe just replace the hoses if they are not brand new. Hoses can separate between layers and block off the flow internally.
If either of these answers is "no", then start looking at the gearbox for steering. Is the gearbox tight on the rail? Is it leaking? Do you see slop between the input and output shaft? Is the rail cracked? Check everything around and about the gearbox.
I've heard a red head gearbox is the one you want if you must replace.
Start disconnecting parts until u find the problem.could have a ball joint binding or tie rod ends or bad gear box or steering column bearings....it could be any of the above since u have the wheels off the ground.
Some greas gun action could also help eliminate parts.just grease one at a time and check.
