well were to start,i have a 1986 f250 with the fi 302,i got the truck a wile back and drove it fine after i would turn the key on and off to basicly prime it to get it to start, which i know was a fuel pump problem,so i just replaced both fuel pumps(in tank & external on the frame rail and filter) it ran fine for about 3 miles then started breaking up and basicly runnin like crap all around,im out of ideas for what else it can be,o yea i had the upper intake and injectors out of the truck aswell and replaced all the o rings and pintle caps, and checked all the injectors which are working as they should, there is something behind the frame rail pump which is round? i was told its the divertor for the dual tanks but i dont no,could this be my prblem? or could it be the fuel regulator on the fuel rail? if any one can help that would be great! if i left out any thing important please let me no !
It could be that. I don't know have you tried running it for a while maybe the new pump needs broken in if you know what I mean. I would try that first then see what?
I don't know for sure I am having the same problem on our 86 F150 302 new fuel pump in tank.
Also maybe check if any clogged lines maybe that could do it. Not much more I could tell you because I don't know for sure.

P.S. Before were you having problems with truck stuttering like running out of gas when putting your foot into the gas?
I have had the truck running at idle for a half hour so I think the pump should be good, yes when I got the truck it would have a problem when getting on pedel, but not often ,I just was out side and crawed under it to have another look and I noticed I forgot to tighten the bolts that hold the external pump tight and the pump had shifted back pinching the plastic line,I pulled it back and it started right up,haven't had a chance to drive it yet have to get to work, but will post if that fixed my problem for sure ,the simplest things are the ones that give ya the most problems,im so ready to throw a 4 barrel intake on it and make it carbureted, but hate to loose the good things with fuel injection, mainly that i can drive basicly upside down with no problems, btw the trucks setting on 37 inch Goodyear military's and 12 inches of lift, its basicly a toy ,but still does see some casual driving
Don't be afraid to pull the codes on a fuel injected vehicle. And if you still have problem, check the fuel pressure. There is a fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail.

The selector valve has a fuel filter in it. If that is plugged then that could be the problem. Also look for pinched or collapsed fuel lines.
