when i had gotten my truck, a 79 f150 4x4, the lower coil spring retainer was broken from when it was rolled over. well i decided to get ahead on repairing it, well things are not going well. the heads of the bolts broke off, and after i removed the lower mount for the coil spring, which i have not been able to find one like the one on the truck, the bolts are not coming loose. i ended up breaking one off 1/4" above flush so i still have something to grab onto atleast, me and a buddy are gonna use an oxy/acetylene torch to heat up the bolts to get them off since mapgas didnt do crap. its all we had on hand. now i have the problem of needing to get the lower spring moun welded back together because of where the bolts go thru the center part of the mount broke off so the bolts have nothing to hold onto when tightened. this truck is becoming a PITA. would anyone be able to tell me the diameter bolts that are used to hold the bottom coil spring mount into place? im figuring atleast 3.5-3.75" long. and could anyone tell me if they know where to possibly get a new one of these mounts. i will attach a picture. thanks.
Yeah I searched the net and looked at different lift kits and didn't see them at all. I'm not looking forward to drilling and tapping the bolt holes. Darn old truck. I'm hoping to be able to backout the bolts.
I know they have drill attachments that come with a bit that bores out a cone shape, and a reverse threaded attachment thats cone shaped, that will back out the bolts.
I'll have to look into that. My dad has some left hand drill bits that i might end up having to use if all else fails. One thin I'm hoping, is that I can get the spring mount welded together solidly. I don't have leads or a power cord for my arc welder so I can't do it myself. Couple other things I've had welded by others the welds have failed. I will get a pic of the broken part tomorrow. I didn't have anything to take a pic with today.
