well the ol girl definitly is breathing better. Gets up to speed easier and with less fuel. I aldso keep my foot out of it more, shift rightwhen it startes getting loud (2100 or so).
engine braking sounds amazing!
had about 1000 lb in bed today, no sweat for her but definitly had to give it more fuel than unloaded, but she didnt sweat at all.
To behonest.. I dont know how you guys haul 6k trailers and what not behind these idis...can they do it? seems like it would take 10 miles to get up tohighway speed..

^ DEFINITLY putting a muffler on if im ever towing heavey. Cops would be all over me with i roared past em hiding under thebridge getting on to the free way at like 60 kph.
now i dont know if im imagingin it, but i think the engine braking is much much better straight pipes than with a muffler..

Thanks, I had it straight piped for one day. The thing was so loud and sounded awesome especially when decelerating. I had people hearing it coming literally a mile away. But it was just too much. The glasspack cut the sound in half if not more. Sounds just like it did before when idling or cruising. Accelerating normally isn't much louder than stock, The only time it makes any noise is when I stand on it and even then it's not that bad.

I straightened my '91 last week, 2 1/4 dual all the way. I had an '88 when I was 16 and did the same thing... Loud yes, a little much for someone in thier 30's yes again, but all awesome haha
I'm sure other ppl hate it, but I love it and it's my truck. I love my idi and I want to hear it work so...

lol my truck is 8k empty.i can toss a couple ton on to bring it up to 12k quick.if iv got my chipper behind there's another 2k for 14k gross.
i can hit 75mph within a 1/4 mile all easy, even as n/a loaded up like this.
it doesn't take a whole lot.you just can't have a low compression/weak ip and injectors, totally off the wall engine timing.
i rode is a idi wrecker with shot injectors and he floored it empty and we hardly took off hahaha.
it's all about proper tune,is all.
the only time an idi should feel on the weak side,is while climbing a real hill.that's when the low (under 200 hp) really reminds ya that's shes a little lame in the momentum department.
getting a load up to speed merging with traffic on the hwy, shouldn't take too much effort, though nothing like a modern diesel can of course.

With the intake/exhaust love my trucks gotten I can actually gain some speed on those hills, never going to go faster than 55mph up them without a running start. I can smoke just about anything pre 03 on the road that isn't a car without having a turbo myself. Thinking of tossing a zf5 under her to speed up my take off, the e4od is weak in that department.
Next idi is getting a turbo, still building the best n/a I can for a bronco 4wheeler.

Somewhere I have scale receipts for carrying 9960lbs, and carrying/towing 23K (Total gross weight of truck, trailer and load) between the truck and trailer with the dually. And that IS with a worn out IP, injectors, and a slushbox C6. It would take 2-3 miles to get up to speed with that load!!
