Does anyone know if the compression testers available at local auto parts stores will work on a 6.0. I might have a possible head gasket leak and want to check. Now i have a #5 missfire. Don't want to waste the money on an injector if its the gasket.
The compression tester I have has a gauge and rudder hose and fitting that screws into a spark plug hole. I've given this some thought and put a fitting on my coolant to install a low pressure gauge, with the thought of watching the coolant system pressure for spikes in pressure. I'm not sure if I'm thinking on the right lines or not. Hopefully one of the Techs share their thoughts on this?thistles
Yeah I guess my question is more directed to does anyone know if the loaner compression testers will screw into the glow plug hole. Aside from the coolant/degas tank test which would tell me if I have a general HG leak I am looking more specific at testing possible which cylnder if that is possible
ok a compression gauge will do nothing to find a head gasket failer on this engine. it will only show low compression for the cyclinders and if found low you issue would be either valve or cyclinder related.
to test for head gasket issues refer to tsb 09-08-03 and test the cooling system.
to awnser your main question. You need a diesel compression gauge and the adapter for it to screw it in to the glow plug hole.
Ok so if I perform cooling system test and it has to much pressure with my egr deleted how else other than a bad head gasket letting combustion escape would my system overpressurize I am a little confused.
