Hey ya'll, I just got a couple navigator halogen off-road lights that I plan on mounting to my grille guard. Only problem is, I have no idea. The lights came with no instructions, just the lights. So, if anybody can help me, any additional wiring or switches I might need etc. I'd really appreciate it. Or if I'd be better off going somewhere to have them installed. (2001 F150 XLT supercrew, 5.4trition, 4x4). Thanks!
AUX lights usually draw more than 5 amps of current each if they have any wattage worth the name.
For this level, a 'slave' relay and seperate fused source is the safest way to go.
For the wiring use at least number 12, quality connectors and good workmanship so you have long term reliability.
To work the lights , the slave relay has one side of it's winding connected to the feed. The other side a single lead into the cab to a switch that applies a ground so the slave relay comes up and closes power through to the lights.
With this set up if a fuse blows nothing works and all the wiring is dead and safe.
Fuse for about 15 to 20 amps max with the fuse holder right off the Plus side of the battery.
Hope this has been of help.
Good luck.
