i have a 51 f-1. it only has a driver side wiper, other side is pluged with a removable plug. the shop manual says the motor on a 51 is in the center of the dash. this truck has the motor on the driver side with a direct hook up to the wiper. i am looking for the linkage to hook up the other wiper. does anyone have any info
Do you actually have a 51 cab? It has 2 gauge clusters.
Both of my 51 trucks had/have the middle wiper but they are both 5 star cabs.
The 51's all had the one piece wiper mechanism since they changed the placement of the radio. If you used one of these wiper mechanisms in a 48-50 you could not use the original radio. You will have to look for a mechanism to get dual wipers because the linkage you need would be off a 48-50 with the optional dual wipers which probally isn't that easy to find.
my 4 gauges and speedo are in one set with the left round (speedo) and the right square. i have been thinking it's not a 51. it has a 51 hood and grill. are you saying that a two wiper system was not standard
how can i tell what year the cab is. the hood and grill are rigth for 51. i have heard that when they started a new model year, that ford would use some of last years parts. where is the serl. # on the truck. i heard it is on the top frame rail right in front of the right side of the cab.
What you have is a 48-50 truck, going by your description of the dash. You can interchange the hoods from 48-52 and that sometimes confuses people as to what year they have. The right hand wiper has a long arm and pivot assy. that hooks onto the motor by going over a 6 sided brass colored stud that you put a clip onto to hold the arm. It's on the bracket that the actual motor bolts to. The wiper arm has a rubber bushing in the end to go over that stud. The majority of the 48-50 trucks had the one wiper. The right hand wiper parts are tough to find at times, but they are out there. Once in a while, NOS kits appear on everyones favorite auction site, but can draw big $$ for them.
yes to all. that's cool. i have been told it's a 48 bed, but i did not pay much attention since i assumed beds were changed all the time. now i have to find out what year the motor and runnig gear is.
do you know the rough size of the two windows, because i thank my window is large. i did not do the rebuild on this truck, maybe they had to change the dash.
The small window measure about 10" x 29 inches, the large measures 10" x 43-1/2 inches. From my years in Ford parts, I remember seeing in the OSI books that Ford would replace parts from one year to another. I remember seeing that the 48-50 hood was superceded to the 51-52 hood by the early 60's.
It would take alot of work to replace a dash since it is welded and is part of the window frame. Maybe you should post your vin number so we can decode it. Too bad you weren't closer since I have an extra 51 cab.
