I've gotten a few quotes for body and paint which were pretty high. I spoke to my buddy in Pittsburgh that has a shop and he said the more I did for him the less I'd have to pay him. So I spent today taking off the body panels (it's a good thing too, there was rot under one of them that woulda gone unnoticed), and I started taking the door panels off inside. The place where I have some trouble is right under the rubber weather stripping beneath the window (apparently most of them do this). So I'd like to pull the trim and find the replacements, so when I take it to him, it's pretty much time to scuff, fix a few areas, and paint. I'm just trying to get some of the labor things out of the way for him.
1. How do I get the rubber strips off the tops of the doors?
2. Does anyone wanna come and help me? Beer, Liquor and Pizza on me. (beer and liquor after we're done )
Pull straight up, if I remember correctly....I don't think there are any fasteners holding them on, just friction.
Awesome... being the forward thinking person that I am.. If I were to pull these parts off, is it still drivable until I get it to my buddy? Not alot, but I plan on doing all of this little by little in between the million other things I have to do.
The only function they serve is to keep water out of the door and finish off the opening. You can use the vehicle without them.
A couple of tips for you... The rear doors at the back edge where they turn up the post have a little hook on them that goes through the sheet metal. It slides straight up, then forward. The front door mouldings may or may not come off with the mirror on. Put the glass down then pull up starting at the rear. When it is all up except for the front where it goes under the mirror, just pull towards the rear. Of course this can be avoided by removing the door mirrors first, but if you want to leave them on til you get where you are going, The mouldings will come off without removing the mirrors.
