body dammage decision

Hey, a week or so ago, my truck got whacked in the mirror by ice and the mirror swung around and put a small ding in my door, right where the window sill in the trucks takes a dip towards the front of the door. My question is whether or not to have it filled and painted. the truck is an 07' and other than that and my busted mirror, it is flawless. I am a freak about it, so I am hesitant to have the whole door repainted ( it is black) and maybe not match correctly or fade out. what do u think? should I do it ( the other party is paying) or should I leave sleeping dogs lay and deal with the small ding? thanks

Is the dent that noticable and did it crack the clearcoat. If it is not that bad take the $ and leave it alone.

its not terrible, just enough to cause the light to catch it and make it show up. The clearcoat is not damaged at all.

Go and talk with a body shop guy...let them give you their thoughts....then you make a decision with more PROFESSIONAL knowledge.

Good Luck Pal....I know the feeling.

Yes...I am exactly like that. The body shop guys said to fill, 2 different shops said that, fill and paint the whole door. I suspect though that they want business and do not care. I am also going to

If anyone is in Maryland and knows a top notch body shop, i'm open to try anything, Ill go up to 150mi from baltimore in any direction.

Any thoughts on dent removal?

They do great work,a buddy of mine had to use them. You cant even tell the dent was there. They dont paint, they just work the metal really slow,to get the dent out.As all metal has memory.

Factory paint is baked hotter than a body shop, and as such is more likely to 'last'. Black is the easiest color to paint/blend and have match, so that shouldn't be a worry. If it's a small ding they won't likely paint the whole door anyway, they'll paint the repair area and then feather the paint out, sort of like blending but within the same panel. Then, they'll clear the whole thing.

If it can be repaired by a painteless dent repair person, that's probably the best way to go.

If it were me, and I was keeping the truck a while, I'd have a paintless dent repair place try it. I wouldn't repaint it, but I'd have the other party pay for the repair.

Talk to your local dealer and see who they take their car/trucks to for reconditioning. They are usualy cost more but do much better work.
