trans. swap

recently I had the misfortune of being hit by 2 strokes. the end result is my left side is paralyzed. that means I can no longer drive a stick shift vehicle, hell in realty I can't do much of anything . of course my f250 osb power stroke i is a stick. I suppose I could just get a different truck with an automatic, however, I have my present truck dressed out just how I want it, and since I can't really do much due to the paralysis I'd like to keep my present truck and matbe convert it to an automatic. has anyone done this and if so what extra perts do I need, also what rauto trans came in the 1996 f250 psd? any help will be sincerely appreciated.

regards,
pat

You can run a C6 (strong, cheap) or an E4od (OD, lockup TC). I would go with the E4OD. in either case you'll need the trans to come from a diesel truck. E4OD needs a computer so grab that too. Might need crossmember and driveline(s) from donor. You'll also want the column with the gear selector and probably the floor cover over the trans hump. You'll also need to run a trans cooler. Not sure if the radiator in the manual has the provision for the internal trans cooler but either way you'll need an external one too.

Best bet is to get a complete donor truck as similar to your truck as you can but with the trans you want and then you'll have most if not all the parts you need.

The e4od is all computer controlled. It may require a harness swap to add the correct wires to make it work.
I'm assuming that the truck wont be driven much except around town and dr appointments.
What gears are in the truck. 350 or 410. I'm hoping for 350 where it's a manual because I'm suggesting c6.

I'm suggesting c6 because it requires very little work, and you buy and install the b&m truck ratchet shifter and it's done on the inside. No wiring except backup light and neutral safety. Crossmember may work, but may need to be moved. Driveshafts are the same.
If you find an older early 90 to 94 truck with 7.3 and c6, get the front driveshaft along with trans. You'll be able to use your transfer case but both driveshafts are possibly different due to trans length difference.

Money wise the c6 is cheaper. Time and effort wise the c6 is easier.
If you're planning on racking up the miles, definatly put the e4od in.

thanks for the input guys, given my current physical condition I think I might just have to find a truck with an automatic trans already installed and make it the way I like it. thanks
