Not sure about this, but here goes.......

Do you have an inertia switch that may have been tripped ???

Do you get the 1-2 second fuel pump prime when you switch the key on ???

Do you have a dual tank selector switch in the dash ???

Inquiring minds need to know

I re-read this statement again.....if the inertia switch was tripped you wouldn't be able to start it.
Has anything under the hood been removed or changed from the stock system which made the truck "runs like c r a p can't drive it" or did it run fine and then suddenly start running poorly ????

Do you know the history of this truck..... i.e. Did you just purchase it ???

More information please.

Bob

It may or may not provide a clue but no one else has suggested it so I will.

Pull the codes from the computer. You don't even need a code reader to do it.

Great, thank you for providing "more information."

You're going to have to have patients with this one.
Everyone that's going to try and help you here will be working your problem from simple thru complex.
Don't get frustrated.
Since you don't know the history of the truck, it's going to take a while (especially over the internet) to get you up and running correctly.
There may be no "change this part" magic fix.

I'd do these things this first and here's my reasoning why:
Pull the computer out of the truck and verify you have in fact the correct computer for your truck/transmission system.
Obviously if the previous owner (you don't know the history of your truck) replaced the computer with a wrong one, your truck may NEVER run right even if everything else checks out as good.
Since you'll have it out to verify you have the correct one, and assuming it is the correct one, open it up and do a visual check to see if here's any obvious problem(s) ie. capacitors leaking, burnt IC chips, burnt circuit board, etc.
Click this link:A9x ECM's (and same years ECM's) Failures Due to Age
If you have a computer that is visually bad, it will perform bad and you'll need to replace it or have it repaired before you go ANY further.

Those would be the first two steps that I'd take, given the fact that you don't know the trucks history, before you go ANY further.

This is just my take....others may disagree.
